Spring Activities

There is no shortage of activities to do in the spring in Durango. The temperatures warm up during the day giving you lots of warm mountain sunshine to do a host of activities. Popular spring activities include hiking and biking and as the weather warms up even more you can even get out on the water! But don’t be fooled by the warm weather, this is spring after all, and the weather can turn quickly. So, plan ahead for any outdoor adventures. Spring Events

Durango hosts a variety of fantastic events every spring. From music events to fantastic food and wine events and everything in between, spring is jam packed with stellar events not to be missed. This Memorial Day weekend, the Iron Horse Bicycle classic is back in full force to celebrate its 50th anniversary! Events like the Taste of Durango in mid-May and the Durango Wine Experience in late April are local favorites and not to be missed events. And let’s not forget the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown towards the end of April. The Meltdown brings in amazing bluegrass artists from around the country and fills the streets and theaters with music. Other fantastic events include the Animas River Days in early June, the Home and Ranch Show in April, and local community favorite the Durango Farmers Market. Spring Attractions

There are a variety of must-see attractions in the Durango area. During your visit, make sure to stop by Mesa Verde National Park. A unique national park, unlike any other, Mesa Verde gives you a glimpse of the history of the ancestral Pueblo people who made Mesa Verde their home for 700 years. Visitors can see cliff dwellings, archaeological sites, petroglyphs and more. This is a must see in Southwest Colorado!

A stop in Durango must include the experience of the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad! Passengers can choose from the shorter Cascade Canyon trip or a longer trip to the Historic town of Silverton. Silverton trips start in early May. Both provide a breathtaking view of the mountains and the Animas River. If you can't take a trip on the train, be sure to stop into the Durango Train Museum. It's free to enter and offers a lot of history for all train lovers young and old.

Other great attractions include the Powerhouse Science Center offering interactive science exhibits for all ages. The Fish Hatchery is another fun favorite where guests can feed the fish. Don't forget your quarters!
